Dr Brian Hynes
Position: Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Brian Hynes Cardiologists Galway University Hospital and now in Mayo Medical Center . Dr Hynes is committed to serving the The Mayo community by providing a superior standard of Cardiovascular care to our patients , utilising state of the art technology to provide care in a compassionate manner.
Dr Hynes graduated with an honours degree from National University of Ireland Galway. He completed his general medical and specialist Irish cardiology training at St Vincent's, St James' Mater Misericordiae and Cork University hospitals. After a research fellowship at University College Cork, he undertook a two year advanced training sub-specialisation fellowship in vascular medicine and interventional cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School Boston, USA before returning to Ireland as a Consultant Cardiologist.
Mr. Derek Bennett
Position: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon MCh, FRCSI, FRCS
Mr. Bennett is a Consultant Orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in all aspects of primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He is Chairman of the Orthopaedic Department at Mayo General Hospital and has been an Orthopaedic Surgeon there for the last eleven years and in the Galway Clinic for the last ten years. He is a member and former chairman of the Irish Faculty of the AO Organisation. He is the only Irish Orthopaedic Surgeon on the European Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is Vice President of the Orthopaedic section of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland. He is a board member of the Irish American Orthopaedic Society as well as a board member of the Irish Osteoporosis Society. He is the Irish pioneer for rapid recovery surgery after hip and knee replacement and has introduced this programme into Mayo General Hospital.
David Ukich
Position: Chartered Physiotherapist MISCP,B.Phys.Ed, B.App.Sci(Physio), M.Sc(Sports & Exercise Medicine), Cert.Orth.Man.Therapy, CPSEM Level III Sports Physio
David graduated from university in Perth in 1990 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy). Prior to this he obtained a degree in Human Movement from the University of Western Australia. In 2009, he graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine and has been awarded the title of Level III Sports Physiotherapist by the Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine. In addition, he obtained a certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy.He has practised in his native Australia, Norway, the USA and Ireland, primarily in private practice. He has worked extensively in sports physiotherapy and has travelled the world with his involvement in rugby union both as a physiotherapist and as a player. He is currently involved with the Trinity College Rugby Academy and has worked from club to international level with multiple sports including tennis, Australian football, cricket, basketball, triathlon, cycling, running and swimming. David also dedicates a lot of his time to educating and mentoring post-graduate physiotherapists and doctors as he is a lecturer, clinical supervisor and examiner on the Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine programme at Trinity College Dublin.
Liam Leonard
Position: Chartered Physiotherapist, MSc Manual Therapy, MISCP,MMACP,MCSP,MCPMT
Liam has over 15 years experience working in both private and public practice both in Ireland and the UK where he qualified in 2000. He has worked in the UK public health service and with various elite underage rugby teams in Wales for 3 years. Since returning to Ireland in 2003 he has worked within the HSE and in private practice in Mayo Medical Centre.
Liam is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy, UK Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Member of the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine and Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered physiotherapists. In 2012 Liam achieved the status of clinical specialist in musculoskeletal medicine and in 2015 he completed a post graduate certificate in musculoskeletal injection therapy. Liam’s interests include complex hip, knee and shoulder rehabilitation. Musculoskeletal health and injury prevention, osteoporosis and exercise and running, cycling and other endurance event injuries.

Who are we?
We are a group of orthopaedic surgeons dedicated to providing the best patient care. In addition to being highly trained in general orthopaedics, the consultants here at Mayo Medical Centre each have different areas of expertise of the musculoskeletal system. We believe that our surgeons should specialise in a specific area as this has been proven scientifically to reduce complications, enhance the quality of the surgical work and facilitate a more rapid recovery by the patient. We have consultants specializing in foot, ankle, hip, knee, and arthroscopic surgery. Our consultants strive to return patients to a fully functional recovery as quick as possible and give them strength and movement for life. We believe in earning the trust of our patients, not only by providing the highest quality care but by treating each patient as we would like to be treated ourselves. Mayo Medical Centre was opened in September 2014 is located on Lawn Road in Castlebar.
As well as having Orthopaedic surgeons we also have, physiotherapists, DXA bone density/Osteoporosis scans and body composition analysis scans which are in particular demand with endurance athletes like cyclists and runners. AllMed Healthcare also run an orthotics clinic here usually once a week. We are always happy to see new patients come through our doors. Although we are a private clinic it is important for non insured and international patients to note that with the Rapid Recovery program, hip and knee replacement can be surprisingly affordable.
