Operation WALK Ireland
MR. Derek Bennett will travel to Vietnam in March 2026 on his annual humanitarian mission, leading a dedicated team to perform life-changing surgeries for patients living in poverty in Hanoi.
Operation Walk originated in the United States, founded in 1996 by Dr. Larry Dorr in Los Angeles. The mission later expanded internationally when MR. Derek Bennett established
Our mission brings us to Hanoi, Vietnam, where countless individuals suffer from debilitating hip and knee conditions but are unable to afford the surgery that could transform their lives. Last month, a multidisciplinary team—surgeons, physiotherapists, nurses, and administrative staff—travelled to Hanoi to provide essential orthopaedic care.
Patients were carefully pre-selected based on medical need and the urgency of required orthopaedic intervention. All surgeries are carried out in the 108 Military Hospital in Hanoi.
- Last year: 64 joint replacements were completed in just four days.
- This year: 56 surgeries were successfully performed over the same period.
We are sincerely grateful to the two medical device companies whose generous donations of joint implants made these operations possible.
A core component of our mission is the education and training of local medical staff at the Military Hospital, helping to build long-term surgical capacity in the region.
Vietnam has a population of over 93 million people, and the cost of joint replacement surgery is extremely high—far beyond the reach of the vast majority of those who need it. Our work aims to bridge this gap.
Donations
Every euro donated goes directly toward essential equipment, medical supplies, and post-operative rehabilitation for patients.
All medical personnel and volunteers cover their own travel expenses and give their time and expertise freely.
